Everything you need to start creating art.
I’ll never forget my first attempt at painting. I was determined to create a masterpiece, so I grabbed my little brother’s leftover school watercolors, a single brush with bristles splayed like a porcupine, and a sheet of printer paper. My vision? A majestic mountain at sunrise. The reality? My mountain looked suspiciously like a lumpy potato, and the sunrise was more of a sad, soggy puddle. My dog wandered by, sniffed my “art,” and sneezed on it—adding a splash of authenticity I hadn’t planned for.
Undeterred, I decided to upgrade my supplies. I bought a real sketchbook, a set of brushes that didn’t double as toothpicks, and paints that actually stuck to the page. Suddenly, my lines were crisp, my colors popped, and my confidence soared. I even painted a portrait of my dog, who—this time—didn’t sneeze, but instead posed regally (for about three seconds).
My second attempt was even more memorable. I tried painting outdoors, convinced that fresh air would inspire me. Five minutes in, a gust of wind sent my palette flying, splattering blue paint across my jeans and a nearby squirrel. The squirrel didn’t seem to mind, but my jeans were never the same. Later, I discovered that painting with the sun in your eyes is a great way to accidentally create abstract art. My “tree” ended up looking like a spaghetti monster, but at least I had fun.
If you’re starting your own art adventure, remember: every artist has a story, and sometimes it’s a little ridiculous. The right supplies won’t turn you into Picasso overnight, but they’ll help you enjoy the journey, laugh at your mistakes, and maybe even impress your dog. So grab your brushes, embrace the chaos, and let your imagination run wild!
